AS VEGAS (March 3, 2013)—“Are 401(k) Plans a Failed Experiment”—if there was ever a headline that should get the attention of all of us working in the retirement plan industry this is it. Unfortunately, we have had to read far too many articles and commentaries on why our current 401(k) plan structure is failing to ensure an adequate retirement for the majority of working persons in America.
In closing, Graff stated “The 401(k) is not dead yet,” but we do need to make improvements and we, working with plan sponsors, together must lead the way to create successful financial outcomes for employees.

“Why bad funds stay in your 401(k)”
When you are dealing with actively managed mutual funds you will always have some bad funds in your portfolio. The thought that someone can predict which fund managers will beat the market seems attractive. The problem is the Wall Street bullies have convinced you that it can be done when in fact it cannot. The markets are random and unpredictable. You should invest accordingly, with the help of an investor coach.
